Tania entered the stables and looked around; she was the only one here at the moment. Perfect. A smile stretched across her face as she opened the gate to turnout ring, then walked over to the ladder that went to the hay loft, the one between the feed and tack rooms and laid her book down on a step, she then walked to the stalls that held her three horses, glad that she had gotten to choose the first stalls here, so her horses were conveniently all side by side. She let her fingers trace each of the brass nameplates as Rathina, Edric and Sancha’s heads poked out over their half doors at her. She grabbed their lead ropes and led each of them one by one out into the turnout ring and let them go.
Calm as always, Sancha, the dapple grey spotted draft mare cross walked over to a corner and lowered her head, immediately beginning to graze. But for Edric and Rathina, that wasn’t the case. Rathina started out the game of tag by trotting over to Edric and giving him a playful kick, missing him of course, just getting his attention and then took off across the ring; Edric gave a buck and followed. Tania smiled as she watched the three for a moment.
She walked over to the ladder between the feed and tack room and picked up her book, she placed it in her mouth and climbed the ladder into the loft. Crawling on her knees across the hay, book still in her mouth, she leaned against a window that overlooked the turnout ring, so that her horses were only a look away. Flipping her coffee brown hair behind her back she tucked it behind her ear and brought her knee’s up to her chest to use as a rest for her book. Opening her book to the marked page, she began to read…

The warm breeze of spring danced in Ian's hair as he walked towards the stable. He knew he wasn't alone for three horses were out in the turnout ring. He figured he'd waste some time and take a few shots of the two horses playing, what looked like tag. Reaching around in his backpack, Ian pulled out his digital camera and began to take a few shots of the frisky horses. Flipping through his pics, he figured he'd taken enough and walked into the stable, it was real quit but it was nice. Ian walked into the tack room and scoped out his tack locker. He reached his locker and grabbed the black and silver lock, repeating the number sin his head as he put in the code 18,3,6. The lock clicked opened and he unhooked it. He did a check list of everything in his mind before placing his backpack on the hook and grabbing the leather halter and lead off the side. He held both in one hand and shut the locker door and locking the lock back. Making his way to his gelding Spirit, he heard a rustle up in the hay loft. Not sure of who or what it was, he laid his halter and lead on a bale of hay and started to climb the ladder. Was he reached the top, he noticed a girl sitting and reading a book next to the window. Before realizing it.."Sorry..."

Hearing the soft click of a camera, Tania looked up from her book and gazed out the window. A black haired boy had a digital camera out taking picture’s of Edric and Rathina playing. She smiled as she watched the concentration he seemed to be putting into getting his shots precise, a pride glowed in her as she felt the warmth of love she held for her horses, and to have someone else seem to enjoy their personalities as well, it was a compliment for her. As he disappeared into the stable she shifted her weight and went back to reading.
She could hear the tack room door open and the click of a locker being opened and then shut again a few moments later, but she paid no attention to it as she flipped a page in her book. She could hear his footsteps as he walked below her and then it stopped completely. Now this disturbed her. Maybe he was in a stall and his footsteps were muffled by hay? But no… knowing her, she thought something must be wrong for them to stop so suddenly. Her horses? She looked out the window. Sancha was still grazing quietly and Edric and Rathina had calmed down and were settling on scratching each others withers for a while.
She sighed deeply. She was always paranoid that something was going to go wrong soon. It was just her way of thinking. She looked back down at her book. Sorry… Tania jumped, the voice had startled her. Her book fell out of her hands, and she placed her hands over her mouth, her eyes wide. But seeing the boy, she removed her hands and smiled, feeling a blush creep up on her cheeks… Now this was embarrassing. She felt like a mental case. She picked up her book, found her place and creased the page to mark her spot.
“No, its fine. I just didn’t know you were there. I’m Tania Wynter.”

Ian jumped a little at the girls reaction when he spoke. A confused look crossed his face, but it quickly disappeared when she spoke to him. "Hey" he said lifting himself into the loft. "..I'm Ian, are those your horses?" he asked pointing towards the window, "They gave me some great shots." He said with a slight smile, this was probably the most he had ever talked to anyone at the stables. He hadn't been here long, maybe 2 weeks at the most, and he was glad to talk to someone. He flipped his black hair out of his eyes and looked out the window. The sun was hitting his eyes just right, showing his bright blue eyes. He looked down at the hay and picked some up, it was soft to touch but itchy after a few seconds of holding it. He looked back up to the girl, "Tania", she had said. Tania... he repeated in his mind it sounded so familiar to him, but from where?

Tania felt her blush creep deeper as he gave her a puzzled look at first, but after a moment he let it slide and had lifted himself the rest of the way into the loft. She scooted over so that he would have room to squeeze between the hay bells. Hey… I’m Ian. Are those your horses? They gave me some great shots. She smiled as he asked about her horses. She loved them. Her pride and joy. She was anxious, she wanted to see how good of shots he had gotten of her babies. She didn’t have any recent pictures of them on her laptop anymore, since Rathina had swung her camera by the string and it banged on the wood pretty hard. Needless to say, that camera is now gone beyond repaid. Maybe he’d let her download them to her laptop though.
“Yeah, those are mine. I seen you taking the pictures. The appaloosa is Edric, the quarter mare is Rathina and the paint draft cross is Sancha. Is there anyway I can look at the pictures later? Maybe upload some to my laptop?”
She looked up at him, hope shining through her chocolate brown eyes. But they were nothing compared to his. His eyes were like an electric blue color, they were breath taking. She felt herself blush as she noticed she had been staring at them. It wasn’t like her to stare. She got embarrassed too easily around people she just met. Once she got to know you though, she was crazy. She wasn’t the little sister of four mucho brothers for nothing. She’d get down and dirty with the best of them. She just found it hard to talk to people she had just met. But he was talking equine… that was something she had never talked to a guy her age about. Now this, exited her.
“What about you? Do you have any horses yet?”
She knew he would have a horse. That was the thing about this place, it was for serious equestrian competitors, everyone here would have a horse. But some might be waiting until they got here to buy a new horse. Unlike her, her horses had came with her. Her dad had offered to buy her three new horses, better horses as he had put it. But she said she was happy with the three she had. To her, there was no better then them. They were her sun and moon and stars. Those three were her life.

Ian let out a small smirk when he noticed the girl, Tania, looking at his eyes. Every since he was little, people always loved him for his eyes and never his personality, he never really understood why, but it didn't, and doesn't, matter to him. He stopped messing with the hay and looked up to Tania, making eye contact, but he quickly looked away. She had deep chocolate brown eyes, and he noticed a sense of calmness falling over him as they made contact, it was strange but nice.
"Uhh.. sure, maybe after my lesson today or whatever, it doesn't really matter to me."
There was a silence, not an awkward silence, but a relaxing one. Let himself recline on the hay loft wall, he had a perfect view out the window. Tania's horses had finally settled after their couple minutes of play. Some blue birds flew by, looked like they were playing or just in a hurry, whatever it was, it was peaceful. Ian closed his eyes for a moment taking it all in, the mixed smells of the hay and spring, horses snorting and one horse pawing the stall floor, and the presence of another human, felt real nice. Ian was lonely quit often, living by himself, no family, friends, it was a boring life, but he made the best of it. He usually spent most of is days here at the stables, either playing with his only friend, Spirit, or doing some kind of work. None the less he was lonely.
A few seconds later, the sound of Tania's voice woke him up from his daze. She asked if he has a horse, of course why would he be here? "Yea actually, I've got a 10 year old Irish Sport Horse. He's the loud and obnoxious chestnut gelding at the end." Ian said, leaning over the edge of the hay loft and pointing down to the end of the barn. The gelding had his head sticking out of the stall, what looked like trying to touch his nose to the ground. What a strange horse, Ian taught to himself, yet he loved him dearly. The gelding stopped playing around and looked up to the hayloft, noticing Ian. He gave out a shril whinny and began to paw the ground. Ian shook his head and looked back up to Tania.
"Well he saw me, so now I have to go obey his ever command.", he said with a smirk.

Tania listened carefully, smiling as he made eye contact but then quickly looked away. Why? The only time a guy had ever done that was one that liked her. He asked her out and they lasted a few months. But then he broke it off when he thought she cared more for her horses than she did him. Which was true. But she had never dated someone that was as into horses as she was. That’s another reason why she was so exited to come here to Vision Springs. If she found a guy here, they would be as dedicated to the equine species as she was.
Lessons. Her lesson wasn’t scheduled until later this evening. Which was why she was hanging out here in the hay loft. She was going to read for a while and then go down and take her lessons. She had three. One for each of her horses. Rathina, the quarter horse mare, was her all around western mare and she was going to work on her balance today so that would aid her in all of her disciplines. Edric, the appaloosa gelding, was her dressage horse and she had a lesson with one of the teachers for him today. And Sancha, the draft and paint cross mare, was her show jumping and cross country horse. She had plans on taking her out over a one of the cross country courses in the trails. But she wasn’t due to get started for another hour or so.
She nodded. After his lessons were fine. She would just find him somewhere later that night in the dorms. If she could find him. She made a mental note to herself to grab his dorm number and come over at about eight tonight. That way they both had time to take care of their horses and eat and shower. She let the silence wave over her, it was relaxing. She smiled softly as she watched the birds flutter by. She looked over at Ian. He had a peaceful look on himself. Like one of his burdens were finally lifted. She guessed he had been lonely, as she had been as well. She could understand perfectly how he felt there.
Tania smiled as he spoke about his horse. Loud and Obnoxious. Sounded about like Rathina. Edric wasn’t really that bad, he either chose Rathina or Sancha to be his friend for the day and acted like whichever one he had chosen for that day. Edric was her bipolar horse, or at least that’s how she put it. Sancha was always calm and sweet though. She looked over to where he pointed and giggled as she watched the gelding try to scratch his nose on the ground. Yep, defiantly a male version of Rathina. Tania looked back up at Ian as the gelding whinnied. She smiled as she noted the glow of love that shown through Ian’s eyes when he spoke about his horse. Her face fell though, he was leaving? Why so soon?
“Oh. Ok then. I guess I’ll talk to you later then?”
